Starting this year, the RBA will deliberate on whether to raise, maintain, or reduce interest rates eight times annually. This will give them more time to weigh up economic indicators before make interest rate decisions.

Previously, the board convened 11 times per year, holding a meeting at the commencement of each month except for January.

The RBA board meeting schedule for 2024 is as follows:

  • 5-6 February
  • 18-19 March
  • 6-7 May
  • 17-18 June
  • 5-6 August
  • 23-24 September
  • 4-5 November
  • 9-10 December

There will be no meetings in April, July, and October.

Traditionally, the meetings lasted a few hours on the morning of the first Tuesday of every month (excluding January).

However, this year, the RBA board meetings will extend beyond their previous duration, spanning two days.

The timing of the interest rate announcement will remain unchanged, with the RBA disclosing the outcome at 2:30 pm Sydney time on Tuesdays.
